June 17 meeting: What is an iPad
June 7, 2010 at 2:09 am | Posted in Ebooks, meeting | Leave a commentApple’s latest gizmo has geeks buzzing…and has caught the eye of many book designers. Craig Mod famously argued before the iPad was launched that it would be the first device on the market that allowed books to retain all the glory of print design: color images, layout, and formed content. In short, a perfect place for art books, picture books, or other material that needs structure to be readable. You can read Mod’s essay by clicking here.
And on Saturday, June 5, the Seattle Times technology reviewer discussed the versatility of the iPad as an ebook reader, since Kindle (Amazon) and Nook (Barnes & Noble) apps are now available for the iPad. See the Seattle Times review here.
So what exactly is the iPad? More than an e-reader? Less than a computer? A new market for publishers?
This introduction to the iPad will cover the basics of the device: what it does and what it doesn’t do. If you haven’t seen one yet or are curious about the potential of this device, let Paul Buerk show you the iPad and Apple’s new iBookstore.
This meeting takes place on June 17, 4 pm to 6 pm, at the Mac Store, 815 NE 45th St., Seattle, WA 98105. The meeting is free but seating is limited: you must RSVP by e-mailing Paul Buerk, paul@irisproservices.com, to reserve your place.
