PNBA Fall Trade Show: October in Tacoma
April 17, 2012 at 1:48 pm | Posted in PNBA, Shows, Tradeshows | Leave a commentPacific Northwest Booksellers Association will hold their Fall Trade Show on Oct 13 to 15 (Saturday – Monday) in Tacoma, WA, at the Hotel Murano and Convention Center.
The publishers’ exhibits for the show will be set up in the Muranoʼs Conference Center, attached to the Hotel. The exhibit tables will be six feet long, and the booth size will be 8′ x 8′. Book Publishers Northwest plans to reserve a booth space to display one title from each paid 2012 member at show. *
Publishers who would like to have their exhibit on both Sunday and Monday, October 14 and 15, need to reserve exhibit space by Friday, June 22. Vendors may also reserve space for Sunday only at a later date.
PNBA plans to have no author signings on the show floor during the first day of exhibits. The emphasis on the show floor on Sunday will be exclusively on the exhibitors, according to their website. PNBA president Thom Chambliss will be the May meeting speaker at BPNW. We encourage members and interested others to bring their questions about the show to this meeting.
For further information on this trade show for Northwest booksellers and librarians (the show is not open to the public), please see PNBA’s website.
*Free display of one title at the PNBA show is a benefit of paid membership in BPNW. Members also have the opportunity to volunteer at the booth as space permits. More information about BPNW booth, staffing, and deadlines for submitting books for display will be emailed to paid members in August. For information on how to join BPNW, please click here.
Pick up books and checks from Montana book show
November 12, 2010 at 5:03 am | Posted in Tradeshows | Leave a commentBPNW member David Ash took books from local publishers to Montana’s Festival of the Book. He will be returning books as well as payments to members at the Nov. 18 meeting.
Ash reports that he managed to sell at least one copy for about a dozen of our authors. “This speaks very well for our members that such an eclectic mix of books could get this kind of response so far from home from one salesman wearing a jester hat,” he quipped.
If you didn’t sell a title, don’t despair, says David. “It may have been the wrong time, the wrong crowd, the wrong salesman, any number of factors. At least two of our titles that got picked up by potential customers more than any others didn’t get a sale. At the very least, somebody noticed you and might remember you down the road, and it didn’t cost you anything to try besides maybe some postage. This is good.”
And if you can’t come to the November meeting, David will mail unclaimed checks and books back to you.

PNBA puts out call for authors for Fall Show
May 27, 2010 at 10:39 am | Posted in Marketing, PNBA, Tradeshows | Leave a commentPacific Northwest Bookseller Association executive director Thom Chambliss recently sent out his annual “Call for Authors” for the 2010 Fall show. Publicists and publishers have until the end of June to send PNBA their author proposals. The PNBA trade show is open to booksellers, librarians, and other members of the trade.
This year, this PNBA show will be held the same weekend as Portland’s public book show, Wordstock, which will be held downtown at the Oregon Convention Center. As per Chambliss, his staff will be working with Wordstock staff to “enhance both our shows” and there may be crossover opportunities for authors and publishers.
PNBA Launching Blog To Help Promote Northwest Authors
PNBA will start a new web blog, Northwest Book Lovers, this summer. “The blog will feature our member bookstores and libraries, and Northwest authors and books, and will invite the public to share our enthusiasm for new books and the authors who write them,” stated Chambliss. “It is our expectation that most of the authors featured at the fall show will also be featured on the blog before the show, thus encouraging booksellers to attend the show to learn more about them, and encouraging the public to consider those authors and their books for their reading pleasure.”

The Independent Publishers of New England (IPNE) will be exhibiting at the ALA Midwinter Conference Jan 15-18, 2010 in Boston, MA (American Library Association).
Won’t you join us? Your members will receive the member rate of $50 per book. We’ll exhibit their book for them and include it in our catalog. The catalog is distributed at the show and posted on our website.

If they’re interested they must sign up by 12/18/09 to get into the catalog. (After that date they can still exhibit but won’t be in the catalog.)
