Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association: Fall Trade Show

May 25, 2011 at 1:39 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Registration is now open for the PNBA Fall Trade Show. The following letter from PNBA explains how you can reserve your own display space. Book Publishers Northwest may take exhibition space if we have volunteers offer to collect books from members, convey them to the show, and staff the exhibit [if you are interested in doing this, please contact bpnwnews at aol.com]

Fall Show Registration Materials Are Ready

Dear PNBA exhibitors,

PNBA’S Fall Show will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 13-14-15, at the Portland Airport Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center. The link to vendor registration materials is provided below.

As we did last year, we are offering you the OPTION to exhibit for either one or two days. The second day of exhibits, Saturday, October 15, will also be used as PNBA’s Author Promotion Day, with a lot of author appearances and activity on the show floor. PNBA is not recommending that you choose to exhibit for either one or two days–that decision is totally up to each individual exhibitor; and you should choose the amount of time you wish to exhibit based on your own experiences and business plan. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY all of the articles about the changes, including the FAQs that we have posted on our web site, before making a decision as to whether to exhibit for one or two days.

Here is the link to PNBA’s web page with information about the fall show and the vendor registration forms. Please note, too, that if you choose to exhibit for two days, you must register by FRIDAY, JUNE 24. The link to the two-day registration forms will be removed on Friday, June 24.

Thanks for your support for PNBA and our fall show. We look forward to seeing you there and to sharing in our new show format.

Sincerely,

Thom Chambliss

Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association: Call for Authors

May 24, 2011 at 1:37 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

The Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association sent out the following call for authors to appear at the October tradeshow.

Dear Publicists,

The Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association (PNBA) has now posted on our web site the Call for Authors for the 2011 fall show, which will again be held in Portland, Oregon, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, OCTOBER 13 – 15. If you are working with an author who might make a good candidate for an appearance at the PNBA show, please contact me directly with your proposals. I will again be producing all of the author events at the show.

As a non-profit (501c6) trade association, PNBA must charge a small fee to help us re-coup some of the expenses of promoting and producing the author events. We are pleased to say that we have not increased those rates in four years. The specific fees for each event are listed in red at the bottom of the Call for Authors. We appreciate your understanding.

The PNBA process requires that we allow publicists until the end of June to send us their author proposals. I compile all the proposals and send them to PNBA’s Selection Committee the first week of July. The Committee returns them to me, listed in the order of the Committee’s preference, with their choice for speakers at the top. I then start contacting publicists in July, inviting authors to speak at the Breakfasts. Once those spots are confirmed, I send invitations to publicists for authors to participate in the Feast. When those are filled, I invite authors to the Nightcapper on the first day. Then I fill out the rest of the schedule with the Celebration of Authors and the signings. The entire process is usually completed by the end of July.

This year, for the first time, PNBA offers Northwest Booklovers as a venue to promote your titles. The blog is designed to feature PNBA member bookstores and libraries and NW authors and books, or any book that our member stores and their customers are buying. Fall show offerings greatly affect the energies and efforts of our booksellers, so it makes sense that we will focus much of our coverage at NWBL on those same authors and books. Please contact NWBL’s editor, Jamie Passaro, if there’s an essay, blog post, NW bookseller recommendation, news item or event that might interest our readers.

We also suggest that you keep in mind that it helps to promote what our booksellers are selling, and that you consider advertising directly to their customers on NWBL, where we offer ads for as little as $10 a day. View our Ad Rates page, and if you have any questions about advertising with PNBA, please contact our Marketing Director, Brian Juenemann. Brian will also be available to meet personally with you at BEA in New York again this year.

We look forward to working with you to promote your authors and their new books this fall.

Sincerely,

Thom

Idaho library will benefit from PNBA Fall Trade Show

August 22, 2009 at 3:48 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

The Clearwater Memorial Public Library in Orofino, Idaho, has been chosen by Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association as the recipient of this year’s Michael Pritiken Rural Library Program donation.

The award consists of thousands of dollars worth of books and materials given by publishers at the end of the fall show. Book Publishers Northwest has long supported this important program by donating all the books in our display to the selected library.

The Clearwater Memorial Public Library serves Peck, Craigmont, Pierce, Greer, and Headquarters, among others. The yearly average attendance at the library is 51,000 patrons.

The library only has a budget of $20,000 per year (which may be cut further this year) and yet serves the area with the highest unemployment rate in the state of Idaho, currently about 15%.

PNBA’s Rural Library coordinator, Colin Rea, Director of the Fern Ridge Library District in Veneta, OR, will work with a group of volunteers from the Clearwater Memorial Public Library at the show to supply donating publishers with a receipt for their donations, to inventory and box the donated materials, and to transport those donations to the Clearwater Library after the show.

The PNBA Board of Directors has named the rural library program for its longtime Coordinator, Michael Pritiken, who died in July.

The Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association’s Fall Trade Show takes place in Portland in September. Members of Book Publishers Northwest will have their titles on display at the BPNW table for the two days of the exhibition.
